Fl Studio 12 Native Osx For Mac: The Benefits of Using FL Studio on Your Mac

FL Studio is now a native macOS/OS X 64-Bit Application: You can test the 12.5.1 features listed above using the Beta installer here. Customers, please drop into the Beta Test forum and let us know what you think.

Image-Line has released FL Studio 20, the first version of the popular DAW to include native Mac support. Mac compatibility was promised in the previous version, FL Studio 12 (the version numbering has jumped from 12 to 20), back in 2014, but only reached the testing phase.

Fl Studio 20 runs as a native 64-bit application for users of macOS 10.11 or higher and supports Mac VST and AU plugins. Owners get a license to use it on both Mac and Windows, and, usefully, projects made on both platforms for interchangeable, even if you use third-party plugins installed on both.

The OS X VST plugin testing, was in fact, the stealthy beginnings of FL Studio native OS X compatibility development. These VST plugins use the exact same code-base as FL Studio itself, and if we could get these working to spec on OS X, then FL Studio would likely follow soon after.

We started by testing a FL Studio Mac OS X BETA (Crossover Wrapped) version with direct installation on Mac OS X. But this is still a Windows program, running on OS X. The interest in the wrapped beta, and the problems we faced supporting 3rd party VST plugins in it, lead the team to start work on native OS X VST versions of Edison, Gross Beat, Harmless, Harmor, Maximus, Ogun, Slicex, Sytrus, Vocodex. See how to get these plugins here.

Well, good news for you, as Image-Line have released FL Studio 20, the first version of its Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) to include native Mac support. In 2014, Mac users were promised compatibility with FL Studio 12, but the program only reached the testing phase.

The long-awaited Live 11 takes things to the next level, adding much-requested features such as an elegant comping system and support for MPE. There are new devices, too, along with updates for existing ones. Further updates have added native support for Apple's M1 and M2 Macs and AUv3 plugin compatibility, so you can now run certain iOS synths and effects within Live, too.

The headline feature in version 20 was a native 64-bit Mac version, meaning that FL Studio can now be used on macOS (as well as PC) without the need for a clunky workaround. Pleasingly, licenses are shared between both Mac and PC versions.

Despite increased competition, Cubase is still up there at the head of the DAW pack. The latest version, Cubase 12, offers yet more new productivity features, along with the ability to sign in to the software with your Steinberg ID and native support for Apple's silicon Macs. 2ff7e9595c
